MW2015 Workshop: Catalyzing Change: Tools and Strategies for Digital Transformation | April 8th, 9.00am to 12.00pm
Dana Mitroff Silvers, Designing Insights, USA, Carolyn Royston, Carolyn Royston, UK, Emily Lytle-Painter, LACMA, USA
Technology drives change, and you—as staff members working with digital media—are at the front lines of new ways of working, collaborating, and solving problems. In this half-day pre-conference workshop, we will explore new ways of building and supporting digital transformation in your organization, drawn from the human-centered design process known as design thinking and the software development methodologies known as Agile and Lean.
We will consider the changing role of the digital staff member from that of an individual contributor and specialist to a facilitator, coach, and mentor, and will share tools and strategies for helping to effect increased collaboration and a move to new ways of working that suit digital-first thinking and raise digital literacy.
We will give you some strategies and techniques to help you:
-Kick-start transformation in your organization
-Ease the relationship between the “tech” and “non-tech” departments
-Advocate for your projects and manage complex stakeholder relationships
-Build a community of practice where digital project management skills can be nurtured and spread
-Establish new mindsets around ways of working and collaborating
Drawing from the practices of design thinking, Agile, and Lean, some of the methods we will introduce in this workshop include:
-Open-ended interviewing and testing
-Empathy mapping
-Constructive brainstorming
-Hypothesis development and validation
-Strategic planning and documentation
This workshop is designed for all museum practitioners working with technology and the principles and techniques are applicable at any level in an organization. Your participation will give you invaluable practical strategies and tools to support your leadership role in catalyzing change for digital transformation.
