Though the notion of providing access to a museum's Permanent Collection as well as educational resources is grand, the reality of introducing the museum's culture into that of a local school community is, at best, complicated. The Whitney will share its experiences in collaborating with school teachers from across the state of New York in developing, training and supporting the use of it's K-12 educational online project "Doceo." The real issues of classroom culture, technological sophistication, the disconnect from the physical museum and museum educator, the wariness of digital images, rights, etc., all challenge the still valid and important quest of bringing cultural resources into the hands of young people.
