The International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) is rapidly gaining traction as the preferred way to share open-access images and metadata for cultural and scientific institutions worldwide. It provides efficient and easy use and reuse of high-resolution and zoomable images, and can provide internal and external users with powerful tools for scholarship, collaboration, storytelling, and more.
However, once you are convinced by the why, there remains the tricky question of how. This presentation aims to demystify the tools and techniques needed to deliver IIIF images and metadata at scale by illustrating different approaches suited to image counts ranging from a few hundred to several million.
