Associate Digital Content Manager, Art21 (New York)

Art21 seeks an Associate Digital Content Manager to join the Digital team in helping to grow and maintain the organization’s efforts across digital platforms. The Associate Digital Content Manager works with the Director of Digital to manage the organization’s overall presence across digital platforms. This is a full-time position based out of Art21’s New York City office.

Working in close collaboration with the Director of Digital, the Associate Digital Content Manager is responsible for coordinating and implementing digital content strategies across Art21 platforms, including Art21.org, the Art21 Magazine, social media channels, and additional digital platforms. The ideal candidate has a demonstrated ability to produce compelling digital content that aligns with the organization’s mission and brand. This position collaborates with all Art21 departments to develop content, ensuring alignment between Art21’s digital content and the overall organizational voice. As a member of a small nine-person staff, the position is both managerial and operational, requiring an ability to both develop and execute strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Create new and original content for all Art21 digital platforms, including Art21.org, the Art21 Magazine, and social media platforms.
  • Manage production of digital content in collaboration with digital, production, curatorial, education, and development staff, developing content from conception through to launch.
  • Produce text- and image-based content supporting Art21’s core video programming.
  • Develop social media posts and campaigns, authoring original copy and utilizing new and existing media content to create social-friendly media such as video clips and animated GIFs.
  • Assist in developing and implementing digital content strategies to support Art21 initiatives.
  • Day-to-day management of digital content calendars, executing a reliable cadence of editorial and educational programming across all platforms.
  • Contribute to marketing and communications initiatives, including email newsletters and press releases.
  • Oversee content production for the Art21 Magazine in collaboration with the in-house editorial team—coordinating with all contributors and columnists, commissioning new writers, and developing editorial goals, guidelines, and schedules.
  • Handle administrative duties for the Art21 Magazine, including content calendar coordination, budget management, and author on-boarding.
  • Maintain and administer the Art21 editorial style guide, ensuring compliance across all published materials.
  • Oversee copy editing duties, managing freelance copy editors and performing in-house copy editing tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  • At least 3–5 years of professional content management or production experience, including experience with cultural/nonprofit organizations and/or publishers.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and passion for, contemporary art.
  • Superior writing, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfort and familiarity with content written for digital and social media platforms, including a firm understanding of conventions for presenting content in digital settings.
  • Deep familiarity with WordPress or similar digital publishing platforms, as well as intermediate HTML/CSS knowledge.
  • Proficiency in creating media using software such as Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, and similar tools.
  • Working knowledge of established and emerging social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
  • Strong editorial skills and demonstrated knowledge of editorial style guides (e.g. Chicago Manual of Style, etc.) and best practices.
  • Familiarity with gathering and analyzing data from analytics platforms such as Google Analytics.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize multiple projects to meet deadlines.
