 Job Summary: 

Under general supervision, conceptualize, design, produce, and edit integrated, engaging, on-brand user experiences including interactive web pages, emails, digital ads, and social media graphics. Champion our brand, helping to guide, monitor and maintain the integrity and consistency of the Monterey Bay Aquarium look and feel across all relevant executions and touchpoints, with a focus on our digital audiences and related channels. Create content that drives brand awareness, supports revenue objectives, and serves our mission to inspire conservation of the ocean. Perform other duties as required.

Core Activities:                                                                                                                                 

  • Design interactive web pages, emails, and digital advertising.
  • Explore concepts and iterate on designs in collaboration with larger design and project teams.
  • Design social media graphics.
  • Shoot and produce photo and video assets for digital marketing materials (social video/animation/motion graphics).
  • Present sketches, wireframes, visual comps and interactive prototypes.
  • Select and edit visual assets (photography, video/animation, illustration) for use across all marketing channels.
  • Build and maintain a variety of project tasks and respond to feedback within established work-management software.
  • Provide usability feedback on brand design to content creators in Marketing and other Aquarium teams based on established
  • design guidelines and standards.
  • Evaluate data, user behavior and analytics to determine the effectiveness of designs to and recommend and implement
  • UX improvements and solutions.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to the Aquarium’s visual brand & identity guidelines.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

  • A. in a related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Ability to think creatively, strategically and technically
  • Desire to learn
  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Collaborative and empathic, with a passion for the ocean and conservation
  • Impeccable sense of design and aesthetic principles – demonstrated through an online portfolio of relevant work
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to apply UX/UI design and usability principles within a structured CMS (Content Management System)
  • Creative and proactive problem solver
  • Experience with industry-standard design software (Adobe CC)
  • Understanding of typography, color, visual communication & design
  • Experience with popular social media platforms and tools
  • Basic Photography/Videography
  • Experience with motion graphics
  • Experience working within brand guidelines
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • Understanding and ability to apply web usability and accessibility best practices
  • Ability to iterate based on feedback

Annual Compensation Range Minimum:

$62,300.00 USD annually. Starting rate will vary based on previous experience and relevant skills/knowledge set.
