Database Analyst

The DBA position works directly with Business Users to analyze their needs, explore solutions, and implement the best solution. These “solutions” will take the form of SQL queries, stored procedures, reports or configuration, or customization to the Shedd core packaged software suite (e.g. Great Plains). ? The ability to tailor solutions to support out business is crucial to this role.
It is required that the candidate has knowledge and experience with database configuration including database security, backup and recovery, and account management. It is also required that the candidate has experience writing SQL scripts for custom reporting and data transformation services.
In addition to the database responsibilities, this position also provides direct support to our end users for applications that utilize a database backend. The candidate will listen to others, recognize potential miscommunications, break down and explain complex ideas or information, identify and solve problems through gathering and applying information from a variety of sources.Supported applications include, but are not limited to:

  • Identify and tailor products and services to meet user needs
  • Perform logical and physical database design
  • Build new databases
  • Modify existing databases
  • Resolve complex database issues
  • Develop custom reports that span multiple disparate systems (using advanced SQL skills)
  • Maintain databases to include: daily, weekly, and monthly service, documentation, testing, upgrades, back-up and recovery, design.
  • Create and Modify databases and data security
  • Strong communication and customer service skills; including being able to talk through complex technical details in non-technical terms.
  • Ability to map and understand database schema
  • Perform back-up, recovery and restoration of large datasets
  • Provide weekly and custom reports.
  • Coordinate and assist Help Desk Support Staff.
  • Assist in training staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Experience in Writing T-SQL scripts and complex queries
  • Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server 2003, 2008 and newer
  • Experience mapping and understanding database schema
  • Experience performing back-up, recovery and restoration of large datasets
  • Proficient in writing database triggers, stored procedures, SSIS (integration services), SSRS (reporting services) and DTS (data transformation services) Great Plains, Tessitura, Forecaster and Management Reporting
    Background in Accounting or Finance is highly desirable.

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Information Technology or Computer Science with a concentration in Database Administration, or an equivalent combination of education and training.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 4-7 years’ experience in Information Technology or in a related position.
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience of Information Technology personnel.

Certifications:

SQL Certification from Microsoft is preferred.
