Design and Content Manager, Hudson River Museum

The Design and Content Manager reports to the Deputy Director for Advancement, Communication and Administration and will oversee the content, design, and production of the HRM’s website and all other digital and print publications. The position is editorial, technical, and creative in nature; the manager develops project briefs and requirements, oversees content generation, and coordinates both internal and external production teams. S/he will write and edit copy, help to establish a cohesive identity and messaging, develop initiatives to build institutional visibility, and deepen visitor engagement and connections with the HRM community.

Key Responsibilities:

Working closely with the Deputy Director, manage the development and launch of a new Museum website, serving as managing editor, engaging a web developer, overseeing content, effective UX/UI design and use of new CMS. Update content regularly and track website performance through Google Analytics; modify strategies based on UX and analytics

Oversee the content, design, production, and mailing of printed materials for Advancement/ Communications, Curatorial and Education Departments, including quarterly Calendar of Events flyers, Membership and Education brochures, invitations for special events and Annual Gala, exhibition catalogs, visitor guides, flyers, and other marketing and fundraising materials to promote the Museum and its events and exhibitions.

Contract and serve as main liaison with outside graphic designers, digital media producers, writers, printers and other vendors, adhering to production schedule and budget requirements

Develop and implement Museum Style Guide for all printed and online publications, adhering to HRM’s new brand identity.

Oversee content, design, and production of Museum signage, including the Donor Board, window signs, exhibition text panels and labels, and other didactic materials.

Coordinate advertising plan for Museum and manage schedule for placement, design, production and ad copy and tracking analytics of ad performance.

Manage photography assets for online and print publications and oversee photo shoots for special events, programs, etc.

Education, Experience and Skills

Bachelor’s Degree is required and three or more years experience in digital and/or print publishing
Exceptional writing and editing skills
An appreciation for engaging visual designs and user experiences and interfaces. UX, UI, and/or visual design skills, highly desirable
Strong collaborative and project management skills with ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines, as well as experience managing outside freelancers/contractors
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
Familiarity with Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, basic HTML and CSS
Experience with SEO and Google Analytics
Experience with the production of printed materials and exhibition and building signage
Successful candidates will be highly self-motivated team players with the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with diplomacy. This position requires the energy and motivation to continuously research and learn different methods and technologies to provide the latest solutions
Interest in the arts, museums, cultural heritage, and/or non-profits is preferred
