The Oakland Museum of California is seeking a Digital Asset Data Coordinator, responsible for the daily management of OMCA’s non-collections digital assets, created or sourced by Marketing & Communications, Education, Development, Membership, and Visitor Experience staff. The position will provide support for ingestion, organization, distribution, and metadata consistency of non-collections assets within the Museum’s Digital Asset Management System (DAMS). Working together with the Collections Data and Media Systems Administrator and the Collections Data Coordinator, they will aid in further development of the museum’s DAMS support of non-collections assets through workflow and organizational vocabulary development, ensuring metadata consistency and accessibility. They will also aid in providing training and operational support to allow the Museum’s DAMS to be fully utilized by staff.
POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain and support the data integrity and organization of the museum’s non-collections digital assets within the Museum’s Digital Asset Management System.
- Support the implementation and development of our Digital Asset Management System.
- Work closely with Marketing & Communications, Education, Development, Membership, Visitor Experience and other staff to ensure the DAMS meets the Museum’s operational needs.
- Respond to users’ questions and solve users’ use and access problems related to the DAMS.
- Work with a variety of staff to establish and use digital asset taxonomies and metadata guidelines.
- Communicate with the Collections Data and Media Systems Administrator relaying user feedback, use issues or requested improvements as they are discovered.
- Work with the Collections Data and Media Systems Administrator to review and implement new features and customizations for the DAMS.
- Identify current museum digital assets and establish protocols for ingesting these digital assets in the new DAMS.
- Assist in a user-training program for the DAMS.
- Ability to display and encourage visitor and internal customer service, take and share responsibility and treat others with respect.
- 2-3 years relevant experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Museum Studies, Information Management, or related fields.
- English language proficiency in both spoken and written form.
- Familiarity with asset metadata schemas and standards and their purposes.
- Familiarity with digital asset management standards and best practices.
- Experience with server “asset mining”, de-duplication and reorganization tools and processes, and asset metadata access via the command line.
- Experience working in a museum setting and knowledge of museum operations, policies, and standards.
- Familiarity with digital design, video production, advertising and print production files and quality standards, terminology, and workflow methods.
- Excellent problem solving skills.
- Ability to follow complex procedural details with focus and accuracy.
- Ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical people.
