Digital Assets Manager

The Historic New Orleans Collection (THNOC) is a museum, research center, and publisher dedicated to the study and preservation of the history and culture of New Orleans and the Gulf South region.  We are currently seeking a digital assets manager.

Based in the Digital Assets and Initiatives Department of our thriving Digital Services Division, the digital assets manager is responsible for specifying and coordinating the appropriate descriptive, administrative, technical, and preservation metadata for digitized and born-digital content managed by the institution. The digital assets manager develops and maintains digital imaging and lifecycle management policies and procedures for all of THNOC’s digital and multimedia assets, including naming, storage, and usage rights. This position also maintains the digital assets management system and oversees the development and implementation of new features and upgrades. This position works with the database manager to coordinate workflows of the collections management information and digital assets management software systems in use at THNOC. The digital assets manager is responsible for supporting and training staff in the usage of the digital assets management software and works with staff to inspect and assess digital images and assets and to ensure the proper incoming and outgoing transfer of digital files.

The ideal candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in archives, library information science, preservation, or information technology and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.  The successful candidate must demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and skill in: digital object and preservation standards and best practices; XML, XSLT, and related data transfer technologies; and standard desktop productivity tools and effective data management practices. This position must be proficient in Microsoft Office and other data manipulation software products and have a demonstrated ability to learn and use museum specific software/databases.  Additionally, this position must have exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, customer service skills, and attention to detail.  The digital assets manager must demonstrate effective communication skills, an ability to collaborate with others as well as the ability to work independently, flexibility in an evolving work environment, and exceptional organizational skills.  Prefer a master’s degree in archives, library information science, or preservation; knowledge and use of Piction; and a Digital Archives Specialist Certificate from the Society of American Archivists.

 This is a full-time position working Mondays-Fridays.
