The Corning Museum of Glass Digital Content Specialist is responsible for the creation, management, publication, consistency and accuracy of digital content generated for the Museum’s website and other online channels, digital communications, mobile solutions, in-gallery media, digital signage, and other digital media initiatives with the goal of providing a diverse online and onsite audiences with an accessible and content-rich experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages content calendar and related schedules and workflows using project and task management tool
- Works collaboratively as a part of the Digital Media team
- Writes, reviews and edits content for consistent quality and accuracy
- Manages Museum web power users, including training, documentation and oversight
- Oversees general management of all website content, including identifying missing content, and drafting or overseeing the creation of missing content; managing timely, accurate content updates on the website in collaboration with various departments; and applying best practices for SEO and content relationships
- Assists in the design of new pages on the website and other digital communications, as needed, in collaboration with the digital designer and developers
- Manages the Museum’s blog, developing and implementing an editorial calendar, drafting and editing text, and coordinating contributions from blog authors across the organization
- In collaboration with the Communications Department, develops style guides and best practices for all digital copy; Maintains consistency in wording, branding and messaging across all digital communications to ensure Museum is appropriately represented
- Accesses and updates content in core enterprise systems (Digital Asset Management, Collection Management, Learning Management System, etc.) as required
- Maintains currency with new technologies and practices, and make recommendations on the use of new and emerging technologies
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in art, museum studies, journalism or related field
- Minimum three years experience; experience working in a museum or cultural organization preferred
- Experience working on website content development and management, and experience working in a content management system or web development tools
- Experience maintaining and creating content for social media channels and blogs
- Working knowledge: HTML, CSS, Adobe Creative Suite, Atlassian Suite
- Strong writing and editing experience and skills, with the ability to maintain appropriate voice for different audiences and to write about art in an intelligent but accessible way
- Working knowledge of Photoshop and basic video editing and photography capabilities
- Knowledge of SEO best practices
- Excellent communication, and strong organizational and time-management skills
- Capability to handle multiple tasks under the pressure of deadlines
- Attention to detail, while able to think broadly and make connections about museum content
- Ability to work effectively and professionally with people at all levels, including external parties
- Very strong interpersonal skills to work positively and pro-actively across the Museum in meeting deadlines
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Some weekends and evenings required; Must be able to travel out of town as needed
