Digital Content Specialist

The Digital Content Specialist is responsible for production and management of content for digital learning platforms, particularly via the organization’s website, Working in collaboration with the heads of Education and Communication, the Digital Content Specialist will create compelling public-facing content, and provide digital services within the organization and be a vital team member in the growth of the Museum’s online audience.

The incumbent is expected to embrace the National World War I Museum and Memorial’s stated mission and core values and demonstrate support for them through professional interactions and performance of job duties.

This is a full-time, exempt position.



    •   Evaluate and administer website content with specific attention to educational resources.
    •   Work with heads of Education and Communications to improve and implement digital content strategy.
    •   Coordinate digital exhibition and other digital interpretive material development.
    •   Administer webpage, including:
      • Creating new online interpretive content
      • Managing website content
      • Partial responsibility for website maintenance
      • Facilitate regularly updated content features
      • Assess areas for growth and new audience outreach across digital media platforms
      • Coordinate assignments for any external contractors
      • Assessing and improving search engine optimization, SEO
    •   Create engaging, timely and easily accessible content for online audiences.
    •   Track key metrics and performance of content and learner engagements across digital platforms.
    •   Collaborate with all Museum departments with an emphasis on the Education and Communications  departments.
    •   Perform other duties as assigned.


    • Demonstrated interest or background in history and/or museums/cultural institutions.
    • Able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing tasks and demands
    • Excellent communication skills to reach a variety of audiences and learners.
    • Exceptional organizational skills; ability to set priorities and adapt as these priorities shift, handle multiple assignments and deadlines.
    • Bachelor’s degree in the liberal arts, education technology, communications, marketing, journalism or similar field preferred.
    • Minimum two years of professional-level experience, ideally at a museum, non-profit, academic institution or similar organization in communications,  journalism or educational capacity.
    • Strong writing, editing, research and analytical skills.
    • High level of technology proficiency; Drupal and Adobe Creative Suite experience is an asset.
    • Excellent organization and collaboration skills
    • Detail-oriented and willingness to learn and adapt with technology.
    • Creative problem-solving skills; critical thinker, consistently able to avoid inconsistency.
    • Proven ability to deliver consistently high quality work under tight deadlines.
    • Familiar with Google Analytics, YouTube, HTML and Microsoft Office products.
    • Interest or experience in photography and/or video production.
    • Able to creatively develop methods and processes for improving content accessibility and improving user experience.
    • Demonstrated interest or background in history and/or museums/cultural institutions.
    • Display excellent judgment, while operating in a flexible and professional manner.
