The Field Museum of Natural History is one of the world’s largest natural history museums. With a collection of over 30 million specimens and artifacts, our researchers actively use the Museum’s collection to better understand the world around us. The Learning Center at The Field Museum acts as a bridge, translating the scientific research of our scientists into educational experiences for learners of every age. The Field Museum’s digital learning team provides a variety of learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom to engage students with the collections and research of the Museum.
The Field Museum’s Learning Center is looking for a full-time Digital Learning Coordinator to develop online and interactive educational media for in-school and out-of-school audiences. The Digital Learning Coordinator will be responsible for designing and developing inquiry-based curriculum that will get the Museum’s collections and research out beyond our physical walls and into communities.
The Digital Learning team has a start-up mentality and follows an interdisciplinary approach to learning that is inquiry-based, learner-centric and incorporates a variety of learning theories. The team values creativity, a passion for technology, flexibility, experimentation and a collaborative approach to learning.
The ideal candidate is naturally curious, a skilled communicator, a tinkerer, and a problem-solver. You are a self-starter, collaborative and in your approach to work and iterative in your approach to design. You have experience with curriculum development and are comfortable working with emerged and emerging technology.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop online educational programs and interactives that align with national standards
- Facilitate the delivery of synchronous online educational programs
- Work collaboratively with Field Museum educators and scientists to create digital learning experiences
- Utilize a variety of technologies to develop and deliver learning experiences
- Maintain relationships with project stakeholders, which can range from corporations to other museums to schools
- Review content of projects to ensure quality, accuracy and appropriate usage
- Identify and stay on top of trends in digital media learning in both formal and informal settings
- Ensure that projects remain on time and on budget
- Pitch in and help out where needed on other team projects
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education, digital and media technology, natural science, social science or related field
- 3+ years experience in curriculum development in a formal or informal setting required
- 3+ years experience in creating, managing and implementing digital learning experiences
- Teaching experience in a classroom or out-of-school time setting preferred
- Fluent in national education standards and current technology
- Well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to work on multiple, complex projects at the same time
- Professional demeanor and ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
- Ability to learn new science and social science content quickly and to adopt digital tools to convey that content
- Outstanding writing abilities and willingness to share writing samples
- Oral and written fluency in Spanish preferred
