Digital Strategist – Folger Shakespeare Library

The Folger Shakespeare Library seeks an enthusiastic, highly organized, and experienced Digital Strategist to join our growing Digital Media and Publications (DMP) division.

The Digital Strategist will work closely with the Director of Digital Access and the rest of the DMP team to advance projects that are critical to the Folger’s mission of creating unique resources and access points for all of its various audiences: researchers, teachers, students, and members of the general public who want to learn more about Shakespeare and his vast world. The Digital Strategist will collaborate with staff across the institution to understand the Folger’s technology needs, and design or develop appropriate solutions in conjunction with key stakeholders and project teams. As a member of a pan-institutional department, the Digital Strategist is expected to help connect resources where appropriate, and identify opportunities to harness in-house knowledge for digital initiates.  They are expected to be proficient with current content management technologies and Folger initiatives, and serve as digital architect and analyst. In their first year, the Digital Strategist will devote a substantial amount of time to an exciting new digital media platform project, funded through the The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

This position requires at least ten years of relevant experience, with a preference for experience as an information architect, business analyst, and/or functional analyst. Experience in an academic, library, or non-profit setting is preferred. Applicants must have deep knowledge of all layers of database-driven web applications and experience with creating wireframes, taxonomies, data schema, and clickable prototypes. Experience with creating, deploying, and sustaining CMS-based web sites and digital media repositories is essential. Experience with usability testing is highly desirable. Experience with standard office software and database systems required. Applicants with project management experience, and who are organized, task-oriented, and deadline-driven are strongly preferred. Experience with managing multiple projects and competing deadlines is necessary. The successful candidate will have a team-oriented approach to work, excellent interpersonal skills, and a strong interest in digital humanities. Knowledge of Shakespeare and early modern English literature is helpful, but not required.
