Director, Digital Experience and Access
Leading the Department of Digital Experience and Access (DEA), this position provides creative, responsive, and strategic solutions in support of exhibitions, education, research, gallery experience, digital publishing and conservation at the Art Institute of Chicago. The Director of DEA works with museum departments and leads technical developer teams on planning and developing innovative means to engage and interpret the Museum’s collection.

The role collaborates and leads digital collection-related projects–both internal and public-facing–and provides a bridge between technical and non-technical staff to promote the ongoing mission and long-term vision of the museum. The Director must be well-informed of upcoming trends in digital engagement and make recommendations and action plans for how these new technologies could strategically advance the Museum. The Director leads software development projects including contract, scope, stakeholder and donor management as well as project implementation.

While staying on the leading edge, the Director must also ensure an appropriate amount of scalability and connectivity with core digital content platforms, such as the museum’s collection management system (CITI). DEA manages the strategic roadmap of CITI, and the museum’s scholarly publishing platform (OSCI), its mobile/iPad tours authoring system (LaunchPad) and other emerging forms for dissemination of collection information and interpretation.
