The Phillips Collection, America’s First Museum of Modern Art, is dedicated to strengthening our learning and education strategies by fulfilling an open position in its Education and Community Engagement Department.
The Director of Learning and Education Strategies is a key member of the Museum’s leadership team and co-leader of the Education and Community Engagement Department. The Director of Learning and Education Strategies will work directly with the Vradenburg Director and CEO, Director of Strategy and Operations, and Director of Community Engagement to develop and implement strategic programming, partnerships, and outreach initiatives.
The Director of Learning and Education Strategies will be responsible for overall program development, long-range planning, management, and expansion of PK12 initiatives in alignment with the Phillips’s mission and strategic goals. They will work collaboratively with museum staff and leaders in the community to develop innovative educational programming to enrich and educate the community about the museum’s collection, special exhibitions, and its undertakings within the community.
Qualified candidates will possess a master’s degree in Art History and or Museum Education or related field, with a minimum of five (5) years museum experience. Someone with a broad knowledge of modern and contemporary art, learning theory and museum practices is required. Demonstrated leadership in arts education and experience working with diverse staff and audiences.
