Director of Media and Marketing

The Director of Media and Marketing serves as a member of Winterthur’s Senior Management Team and is responsible for leading, directing, and implementing the museum’s media and marketing initiatives, including the marketing, advertising, new media, website, publications and photo services arenas. He/she will manage an annual budget tied directly to revenue and attendance goals for the museum’s diverse offerings, and will collaborate closely with senior management and key clients to handle strategic communications. He/she will set the fundamental tone, philosophy, and strategy for Winterthur’s advertising and social media campaigns. He/she will work closely with the Director and CEO to establish successful partnerships and outreach initiatives to further the mission and visibility of Winterthur Museum.

Job Requirements:
B. A. in Communications, Marketing, English, or related field. MBA or MA preferred. 5 years management experience in a fast-paced marketing, communications or new media environment, preferably in a museum or nonprofit institution. Senior-level experience also preferred. Strong background in brand development and management. Ability to conceptualize, implement, and proof for visual consistencies across multiple media touch points is critical. Keen, sensitive eye for design standards and applications, as well as expertise in defining issues that could relate to final quality of design product is essential. Strong copywriting skills is critical. Proven proficiency creating engaging content for various target markets and marketing applications. Promotional copywriting skills a plus. Dynamic and forward thinking strategist with strong project management and organizational skills, including communications planning expertise. Analytical, forecasting, and research skills a plus. Experience or knowledge of media buying and planning. Strong understanding of digital space and its marketing potential. Ability to understand the context of non-traditional marketing efforts in relation to broader institutional marketing strategies. Strong project management and supervisory skills. Ability to perform under deadline pressures and balance multiple priorities. Must be able to build and maintain the department’s productivity, quality, and accuracy in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with editorial procedures and standards such as proofreading and copy-editing marks and directions. Working knowledge of pre-press, production, and project trafficking systems. Specialty/custom print or digital projects experience for high-end markets is a plus. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to negotiate. Must possess well-developed written and verbal skills to interact with staff, internal museum clients, and outside vendors with tact and sensitivity. Proficiency in WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and Outlook/Entourage.
