The Smithsonian is seeking an individual to lead the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES), a major outreach program that shares the wealth of Smithsonian collections and research with audiences throughout the United States and its territories. The Director elevates the Institution’s educational mission by strengthening existing and forging new relationships that increase the Smithsonian’s impact and visibility. This will involve the overall planning, development, direction and management of all aspects of SITES’ program of traveling exhibitions and related activities. SITES currently has an average of 50 exhibitions in circulation and operates on combined Federal, Trust, and Gifts and Grant budgets of approximately $10 million per year.
