Head of Digital Content at Qatar Museums (Doha, Qatar)

The Head of Digital Content is a senior position within the newly established Digital Experience Directorate (DE) and is responsible for leading the development of a unifying digital content strategy for Qatar Museums (QM) and its wider estate. This role will define the overarching editorial mission, vision, and voice for QM and will ensure that the new digital content strategy closely aligns with the QM brand. The role will also ensure that all content produced for digital publication is in harmony with the digital content strategy, is optimised for digital consumption, and will engage and inspire QM’s target audiences. Ensuring quality, impact and consistency of output will be a priority. In addition, the Head of Digital Content will align editorial and business goals while supervising the editorial and content production staff within the Digital Experience team and external agencies as required. This role will also oversee associated content production budgets.


  • Responsible for implementing QM’s digital content strategy across multiple public-facing digital channels and brands
  • Leads the commissioning and sourcing of content for QM’s strategic digital outputs including all websites, apps, mobile and in-museum digital experiences, etc.
  • Establishes and implements standards, systems, best practices, and workflow processes
  • Oversees the planning and production of all public-facing interpretive digital content for QM, encompassing ideation, development, quality assurance through to publication and evaluation. Ensures the content focus, design and targeting all fit with QM’s strategic objectives and build engagement with new and existing audiences
  • Ensures that all outputs are creative, well-targeted, engaging, professionally-produced and on-brand, with content suitable for a range of digital channels including websites, apps, in-museum and mobile experiences
  • Works with key teams and stakeholders (both across QM and external) to commission and produce digital content and ensure that processes are efficient and effective
  • Leads a team of 19 content writers, editors and planners
  • Works closely with the Director of DE to determine and schedule an optimal rolling publication programme that aligns with QM’s overarching timelines across venues and initiatives
  • Works closely with the Head of Digital Production to deliver QM’s content goals
  • Works closely with Head of Analytics and Research to evaluate content against KPIs and to identify areas of future improvement based on insights and optimize content effectiveness

Experience and Skills

  • 8+ years of relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated editorial abilities, practices and content distribution strategies
  • Proven senior leadership experience in the digital sphere (preferably within culture and heritage), including managing people, teams and complex work streams
  • Experience managing a digital content team, preferably in a communications, media or creative environment
  • Experience or ability to devise and implement effective digital content strategies to target key priority audiences
  • Experience with strategic and creative content development for a purpose-driven brand
  • Experience or ability to deliver skills training and coaching
  • Budget management and cost controls
  • Desirable: Experience with multilingual content production (focus on English and Arabic)
  • Knowledge and experience working with digital content and asset management systems
  • Knowledge and experience of developing and deploying Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) strategies that result in increased visibility and audience engagement
  • A passion for and detailed knowledge of digital communications and industry best practice
  • Ability to identify stories that “hook” audiences and that can provoke an empathetic reaction in order to increase engagement
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills (including copy editing) with the ability to tell compelling stories to non-specialist audiences in clear and engaging ways
  • Ability to establish communication and editorial standards and guidelines
  • Familiarity with content creation and distribution strategies
  • Active interest in the latest media platforms, technology tools and marketing solutions
  • Ability to pivot and adapt to audience’s content needs and habits
