IMA Lab: Front-End Designer/Developer

The Indianapolis Museum of Art (IMA) seeks a talented Front-End Designer/Developer to work as part of the IMA Lab. The IMA Lab is a multi-disciplinary, award-winning web design and development consultancy that serves the IMA’s mission and the greater cultural sector. We are a dynamic group of designers and developers who create and share technology solutions for the cultural sector. We’re looking for a front-end designer and developer that is passionate about creating websites and apps from the ground up. Someone who takes great pride in taking an idea from concept to implementation. Candidates should posses a strong attention to detail while being able to push the boundaries of visual design.


  • Work closely with developers and designers to create and implement user focused and visually inspiring designs
  • Take Photoshop and Fireworks comps and turn them into pixel perfect HTML and CSS
  • Develop design assets for websites and apps
  • Work from a rough idea to a fully realized design vision


  • Bachelor’s degree or equal experience, preferably with an emphasis in graphic design, interaction design, or user experience
  • Expert level experience with web standards (HTML5, CSS3)
  • Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite; specifically Photoshop, Fireworks and Illustrator
  • Excellent visual design skills, familiarity with common UI design patterns and conventions and experience with information architecture
  • Ability to elegantly push the boundaries of web design and digital storytelling
  • Familiarity and commitment to user experience and user-centered design principals
  • Strong communication skills, ability to collaborate with a diverse team
  • Proven skill in the use of typography, composition and layout to communicate effectively and elegantly
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to self-manage multiple projects at once


  • Experience with responsive design strategies
  • Experience working with Drupal, iOS, Android
  • Experience with modern CSS/styling frameworks (Less, SCSS, Bootstrap, etc.)
