MoMA PS1 is one of the oldest and largest nonprofit contemporary art institutions in the United States. An exhibition space rather than a collecting institution, MoMA PS1 devotes its energy and resources to displaying the most experimental art in the world. A catalyst and an advocate for new ideas, discourses, and trends in contemporary art, MoMA PS1 actively pursues emerging artists, new genres, and adventurous new work by recognized artists in an effort to support innovation in contemporary art. MoMA PS1 achieves this mission by presenting its diverse program to a broad audience in a unique and welcoming environment in which visitors can discover and explore the work of contemporary artists. Exhibitions at MoMA PS1 include artists’’ retrospectives, site-specific installations, historical surveys, arts from across the United States and the world, and a full schedule of music and performance programming.

 

Summary

Reporting to Chief Operating Officer, the IT Manager manages, coordinates, and handles all IT operations, programs, and projects for the museum, and works both independently and collaboratively to ensure that the museum’s needs are met and its technology systems run efficiently and without interruption. The IT Manager is responsible for proactively determining, developing, and implementing the museum’s IT goals, and works with the Chief Operating Officer on technology priorities, projects, and budgets for the museum.  The IT Manager works with and provides support to all departments and programs of MoMA PS1, and primary areas of responsibility are user and desktop support and management, network and systems administration, planning and operations, and project management and execution.

 

Supervision

The IT Manager reports to the Chief Operating Officer, and regularly works with all levels of staff across all departments and program areas, as well as with outside vendors and contractors. The IT Manager works in close collaboration and consultation with the IT team at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function to a high professional standard. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

  1. Five or more years of experience in providing a full range of IT support, coordination, and management, preferably in a museum or other cultural institution.
  2. Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, engineering, mathematics, information technology, or equivalent technical discipline.
  3. Demonstrated ability as an IT manager or coordinator, with experience in network management, help desk support, and budget management, and strong knowledge of emerging technologies.
  4. Excellent technical skills and demonstrated troubleshooting and repairing abilities, with strong knowledge of IT systems, applications, and hardware, and hands-on experience with computer networks, network administration, network installation, and LAN/WAN configuration.
  5. Proven ability to work with high level technical vendors, suppliers, and contractors.
  6. Exceptionally proactive, accountable, and adaptable attitude towards responsibilities, and highly professional and positive attitude in a dynamic and creative setting
  7. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently, while taking direction and communicating effectively.
  8. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work productively and collaboratively with all levels of management and staff.
  9. Superior skills in managing priorities and time, multitasking, and completing tasks in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing and conflicting deadlines.
  10. Excellent organizational and coordinating abilities, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
  11. Exceptional judgment, professionalism, and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive situations and matters.
  12. Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed, and to respond to emergency situations.
