SUMMARY
The Manager of Access Initiatives will work with internal and external strategic partners to ensure full accessibility to the Toledo Museum of Art. The Manager of Access Initiatives will perform comprehensive audits of the Museum’s physical spaces, processes, and procedures and will work closely with Museum staff and the Ability Center of Greater Toledo (ACT) to determine recommendations to modify accordingly. The Manager of Access Initiatives will play an integral role in developing and achieving diversity, equity, access, and inclusion initiatives. This is a three-year position at the Museum with an expectation of continued employment in year four and beyond at ACT.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Works closely with the Ability Center of Greater Toledo, including regular meetings with the Director of Strategic Initiatives to discuss the Museum’s progress.
  • Audits each area of the Museum’s operation, makes recommendations to improve access and integrates inclusive design. Consults on the implementation of those recommendations.
  • Develops and executes trainings with Human Resources for staff and volunteers. These trainings will focus on creating awareness of disability access issues and building skills in serving individuals people with disabilities.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources staff to assess and amend employment/recruiting practices to ensure inclusivity.
  • Will complete a full accessibility audit of Museum facilities to determine physical accessibility. Determines order in which audits will be completed.
  • Audits all educational programs and offers recommendations for making art classes and the teen leader program fully inclusive.
  • Works with the Communications department to ensure all communications standards are developed with inclusive design in mind.
  • Audits and makes recommendations on all digital collateral, including TMA’s phone system.
  • Audits, makes recommendations, and ensures accessible standards of interpretation in galleries.
  • Assesses and makes recommendations for design of programs/standard room set-ups. Consideration will be given to launching an Arts4All Festival.
  • Develops recommendations for structure and staffing to embed accessibility sustainably into TMA’s culture.
  • Consults on fundraising and grant applications to support the implementation of the work.
  • Performs other duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Human Resources, Communications, Human Services, or related field is required.  Some coursework in Disability Studies or a related discipline is preferred.
  • 3-5 years disability or related experience required.  Some administration experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates professional and operational knowledge of State and Federal Disability, ADA, ADAAA, and other appropriate laws.
