National History Day in Kentucky State Coordinator

The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) in Frankfort, KY, is looking for an enthusiastic “people person” to help grow Kentucky’s chapter of National History Day, the ultimate history-centered, inquiry-inspired, project-based learning experience for students in grades 4 to 12. Through the creation of exhibits, websites, documentaries, performances, and papers, National History Day in Kentucky (NHDKy) provides experiences that promote an understanding and appreciation for the use of history to build critical thinking, problem-solving, research, and presentation skills – all skills that benefit them both inside and outside of the classroom. Utilizing a network of Kentucky collaborators and international NHD coordinators, the KHS NHDKy Program Coordinator will organize and present a high-quality experience for students and teachers participating in annual contests on the regional, state, and national levels.

Over the past 10 years, thousands of students have participated in NHDKy, and the Kentucky program can brag of 15 national finalists, 6 special national award winners, 4 national medalists, and 1 full-tuition recipient. Truly a statewide collaborative effort, the KHS Program Coordinator will develop and coordinate NHDKy through relationships with colleges and universities, historical organizations, libraries and archives, and other community partners from all corners of the Commonwealth.

The salary for this program coordinator position is $33,644.64/annual. Interested applicants should submit a cover letter and current resume by email to khshr@ky.gov by August 19, 2021. No phone calls, please. Applications received after August 19, 2021, will be ineligible for consideration.
