General Job Overview
The Assistant Registrar, On-Call has an important role in supporting registration methods, policies, and procedures related to the museum’s accessions/deaccessions, collections care, outgoing/incoming loans, and exhibition programs, including the Fisher Collection. The incumbent handles assigned registration activities for a range of modern and contemporary artwork types and SFMOMA exhibitions.
Reporting to the Head of Registration, working directly with Registration project points and cross-departmentally in conjunction with Curatorial, Exhibitions, Collections Management, Conservation, Facilities, and other museum departments, the Assistant Registrar is responsible for ensuring the safe handling and storage of artwork; coordinating the various aspects of borrowing and lending objects under the museum’s domain; scheduling and overseeing delivery, preparation, installation, and dispersal of art objects; and maintaining inventories and related billing and documentation to support either the Temporary and Loaned Exhibitions or Collection activities, respectively, of the Registration Department.
The individual works with and represents the museum’s interests to members of the arts communities, such as artists, studios, fabricators, estates, donors, vendors, galleries, and other museums.
