Job Title: Registrar, Collections
Schedule: Full-Time, 35 hours/week
The Registrar, Collections has a principal role in reimagining and implementing responsive registration methods that track to contemporary art practices, cross-departmental integrations, and the museum’s dynamic art programs in ways that ensure the stewardship and accessibility of modern and contemporary art. They are a flexible, hands-on, creative problem-solver with in-depth knowledge and understanding of museum registration and collections care principles and practices. The Registrar, Collections trains, supports, and supervises a team of expert collections and loans out registrars in activities that are aligned with the museum’s strategic priorities and the goals of the Registration department and the Collections, Exhibitions and Design (CED) division.
This position is an opportunity to hone leadership skills in advancing the museum’s collecting, loans out, and exhibition programs. The Registrar, Collections works closely with senior-level staff members, as well as SFMOMA trustees and donors.
Reporting to and working with the Head of Registration, the Registrar, Collections is a vital partner to colleagues in CED, Curatorial, Legal, Facilities and Operations, Security, Visitor Experience, and Education and Community Engagement in realizing integrated collections stewardship, collaborative collections and exhibitions research, and engaging and inspiring public programming.
