The J. Paul Getty Trust, Communications Department, is seeking a social media producer to join our digital engagement team. The producer will be part of a collaborative four-person group that seeks to engage a broad non-specialist audience with the Getty through creative digital storytelling.
Working with subject matter ranging from classical antiquities to conservation science, the social media producer will contribute to the Getty’s blog, the Getty Trust social media channels (@thegetty on Instagram, Tumblr, Flickr, Twitter, Facebook, and Giphy), and audio and video uploads for YouTube and SoundCloud.
This is fast-paced, detail-intensive work that occasionally includes evenings and weekends.
Major Job Responsibilities
The social media producer will generate story ideas, write and edit social media posts, and dialogue with audiences on social media. He or she will also be the point person in the team for tracking analytics, creating weekly planning documents, generating monthly reports, managing file-upload schedules, and maintaining a Google Calendar.
Superb organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail are required.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably related to digital media production, art history, writing, journalism, or a related field.
- 2+ years of professional experience managing social media in a nonprofit or academic environment (in your cover letter, please detail which platforms you have managed and your role in each).
- Demonstrated skill at social media photography (Instagram, etc.).
- Authentic, conversational voice on social media (please provide links or samples).
- Demonstrated blogging skills. Text editorial skills (Chicago, AP) are a plus.
- Photoshop skills (resizing, artful cropping, improving image quality).
- Experience using analytics to analyze and improve the performance of digital content, and creating reports based on those analytics.
- Experience maintaining a content calendar.
Preferred:
- Basic knowledge of HTML and WordPress.
- Knowledge of DSLR photography and video, or strong desire to learn.
- Knowledge of Adobe CC including Illustrator and Premiere.
- Demonstrated ability to cover a story in real time on social/digital platforms, such as live-tweeting events and moderating Hangouts and YouTube Live events.
- Understanding of copyright law as it applies to digital content.
- Ability to manage projects of moderate complexity.
- Subject area knowledge in one or more areas in which the Getty is active: art history, librarianship philanthropy, art conservation or conservation science
