About The Client: MHz Curationist is an online space for curating art and cultural heritage. It is a free knowledge project created by the MHz Foundation, for people to share, learn and find out more about the cultures that we live in. The site is designed to be clear, intentional, and entertaining. Enriching, but not academic. Fun and trustworthy. It draws upon Creative Commons and public domain content shared by galleries, libraries, archives and museums through their open access programs. The site is contributed to and managed by a collaborative team of freelancers enthusiastic about sharing art and culture in dialogue with others. Curationist is a not-for-profit project of the MHz Foundation, a 501c3.

Role Description: Open-i Advisors is seeking to add an experienced technical project manager to our collective of consultants and experts in support of our client, MHz. Details below.

Job Title: Technical Project Manager

Employment Type: Part-time Contractor

Time Commitment: 35-45 hours a month

Reports to: MHz Operations Director and OiA Managing Partner, Taylor Tricarico

Overall responsibility: To ensure the on-time, under-budget development, and maintenance of MHz Foundation’s digital products and properties through the management of projects and processes.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Analyze, plan and develop requirements and standards in reference to scheduled projects (ie: BRDs, UX/UI planning, and execution, site enhancement planning)
  • Build and Maintain the technical project plan(s) for MHz
  • Triage maintenance issues and monitor tickets as they are opened to address them
  • Oversee the QA process weekly
  • Build and maintain technical process documentation
  • Ensure priority alignment between the content and curation team and the development team
  • Identify, communicate and solve issues between Digital Archives, Content Curation, Development, and Technical contractors, serving as a bridge team members
  • Work closely with the Content Curation Director and her team to understand the user requirements for all systems
  • Proactively identify areas for improvement in technical processes and procedures
  • Ensure that all technical tasks track to roadmap objectives and actionable goals for the organization
  • Provide Executive Director and Board of Directors monthly and quarterly reports on progress
  • Hold regular technical team meetings to determine progress and address any questions or challenges regarding projects
  • Determine and define clear deliverables, roles, and responsibilities for contractors required for specific projects or initiatives
  • Research and evaluate hardware and software technology options and weigh the cost/benefit analysis when making large purchases on behalf of the company
  • Work with the Dev team to update and maintain all production technologies ensuring proper maintenance and installation
  • Coordinate work, solve problems, communicate effectively, and also understand the big picture in light of the front-line work that must be performed
  • Establish and implement systems training processes and strategies for all non- technical personnel


  • A degree or commensurate work experience in engineering, computer, library and information science or a related field
  • 3-to-5 Years of experience in IT, project management, or a related field
  • Excellent leadership abilities
  • Work well in a collaborative environment and pay meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both technical and non-technical terms
  • Sound foundational knowledge of IT infrastructure and architecture
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills


  • Previous experience and familiarity with cultural resource data, metadata schemas and taxonomies, media assets, and collections from galleries, libraries, archives and museums
