User Experience / Design Specialist (UX)

The Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation (CSTMC) is currently seeking a dynamic individual to fill the position of User Experience / Design Specialist (UX)

Summary of Duties:

Reporting to the Manager, Digital Media and Technology, the User Experience Specialist is responsible for optimizing the user experience (UX) of public-facing digital initiatives based on best practices and current design trends. The specialist continually assesses user behavior, provides recommendations and designs new interfaces that will optimize user flow and experience. The Specialist will work closely with internal and external clients and developers throughout the implementation process.

The standard weekly hours are: SWW 37.50 Hrs (5 days consecutive Mon. – Fri.)

Education and Experience:

As an ideal candidate, you hold a university degree or college diploma in Human Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Multimedia, or relevant education in Information Technology. You also have experience in the following areas: – five (5) years relevant work experience in graphic design for the web, interactive kiosks, games or apps; – one (1) to three (3) years of experience in designing digital user experiences and interfaces; – solid experience in creating information architectures, wireframes, taxonomies, navigation systems, search systems, user stories, storyboards, user flows, process flows and site maps; – training or experience working with with HTML, CSS3 and JavaScript; – experience working with WordPress; – experience in designing wireframes for responsive layouts; – project management experience; – solid experience working with Google Analytics.

RATED REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge:

  • training and ability in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript;
  • strong understanding of online user psychology;
  • understanding of content management and metadata;
  • understanding of principles of evaluation, market research, web analytics;
  • proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, Balsamiq or other visual design or wireframing tools;
  • up-to-date with the latest User Interface (UI) trends, techniques and technologies;
  • up-to-date with the latest accessibility standards governed by W3C;
  • strong understanding of today’s front-end technologies. Abilities:

  • to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
  • to work under pressure; – to solve problems creatively and effectively;
  • to present designs and sell solutions to various stakeholders;
  • to turn web statistic (data) into business intelligence; – strong organizational and project management skills;
  • strong typography, colour, iconography and layout skills;
  • excellent visual design skills with sensitivity to user system interaction.
