Michael Epstein
Founder and Director
Untravel Media

I currently run a multi-disciplinary studio in Boston and San Francisco called Untravel Media ( that produces narrative mobile media for museums, civic groups, and filmmakers. We have developed numerous applications for museums and broadcast clients and learned a lot about how digital storytelling (for iPods, cell phones, and other mobile devices) can successfully mix with real world surroundings and installations.

Untravel has a history of boundary crossing, developing the first iPhone app to win an award in a major Film Festival ( and the first location-based video guide ( My background is in audio production, education and product design. I reported for NPR and PRI shows in the past, focusing on human issues in technology. I have developed location-based applications for international carriers (Sprint, Telefonica, AT&T), and worked as a media/computer teacher in K-12 schools in San Francisco, St. Louis, Morocco, and Israel.
