Dr. Foteini Valeonti recently completed her PhD at the UCL in London with title "USEUM: Making art accessible with crowdsourcing". Her thesis explores ways crowdsourcing and the emergence of the OpenGLAM movement can be taken advantage to democratise access to art. USEUM's platform (useum.org) has been published on The Times and has been awarded the "Seal of Excellence" innovation award by the European Commission. Foteini’s research interests also include the design and development of Augmented Reality software for Cultural Heritage institutions, having worked on numerous AR applications for museums and galleries. Her background is a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science and a MFA in Interactive Digital Media from Ravensbourne College (City University), which she attended on scholarship and earned with A+. Her MFA thesis, "Shakespeare's Hunt", is an Augmented Reality iPad game she developed in collaboration with Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London. Foteini has been invited to discuss her research and work at various conferences.
